Her legs were covered in blood from a deep wound that exposed her high elbow joint, though it did not, amazingly, dislocate the elbow itself. The wound was awful, and we can hardly imagine how she managed to run from the road to this field in her neighborhood, where she collapsed.
Her neighbors found her soon after the accident and immediately called us. Thanks to the internet we were able to see a video of her injury and knew we had to hurry. Back in the hospital, we stabilized her with IV fluids, treated her for pain, and as we flushed and bandaged her wounds, she glanced curiously at our treatment team but seemed assured that she was in good hands and laid her head down with both exhaustion and patience.
Her healing journey had begun, and maybe she knew it. We named this elegant girl Moonie, and after 4 weeks of healing, we loved returning her to her neighborhood where her loving neighbors welcomed her home, saved and sparkling again.
